How Neptune retrograde feels
Neptune retrograde lifts veils around fantasy, spirituality, and escapism. What felt mystical may need grounding; what felt confusing may reveal a pattern. It is a period for honest spiritual practice and creative refinement rather than chasing mirages.
Neptune spends about five months a year retrograde, and it is the least dramatic of the eight. The usual effect is a quiet sobering: people and causes you idealized start to look ordinary, and stories you told about yourself lose some of their pull. Very little of this happens on the day of the station. It builds over the months, as you stop defending what you no longer believe.
The first degrees of Aries
The whole cycle covers under three degrees at the very start of Aries, which is all an outer planet manages in five months. Neptune entered Aries in 2025 for a stay of about fourteen years, so this is early work in a long chapter. The question under review is what you are ready to believe about yourself when you are the one who has to act first.

Questions about Neptune retrograde 2026
When does Neptune retrograde start and end in 2026?
7 July to 12 December, 158 days. The station retrograde falls at 4°25′ Aries and the station direct at 1°36′ Aries, both given in Universal Time.
What sign is Neptune retrograde in during 2026?
Aries, and only its first five degrees. After fourteen years in Pisces, Neptune is new to this sign, and every yearly retrograde from now to the late 2030s falls in it.
What are the Neptune retrograde shadow dates?
Pre-shadow from 16 March, post-shadow to 2 April 2027: twelve and a half months end to end for a five-month retrograde. With a planet this slow the shadow is most of the story, which is one reason the station dates matter less here than they do for Mercury.
What does Neptune retrograde feel like?
Clearer, and slightly disappointing. Neptune direct softens the edges of things; retrograde, it stops doing that, so what was blurred comes into focus whether or not you wanted it to. People commonly describe losing interest in something they were sure about rather than discovering anything new.
Is Neptune retrograde a good time for spiritual practice?
Yes, and specifically for the plain kind. The season favors a practice you keep up over one that produces experiences, such as sitting, walking or writing down your dreams, because it tests what survives without atmosphere. Teachers, groups and beliefs that cannot stand a sober look tend not to survive the five months.
