When and where to see it
The Moon’s shadow reaches land at the Strait of Gibraltar and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes to get to the Nile valley. Totality lasts longest along the central line, which runs just south of the Strait, along the coast of North Africa past Oran and Benghazi, across Egypt near Luxor and on over the Red Sea. Toward the edges of the path it shrinks fast, so a few kilometers change the length.

Planning tips
Southern Spain in early August is at the height of the holiday season, and the roads to Cádiz and the Costa del Sol will be busy on the morning of Monday 2 August. Book a room near the spot you want to watch from rather than driving in on the day. Ceuta is reached by ferry from Algeciras, and Tangier by ferry from Tarifa or Algeciras.
The Nile valley has the best odds of a clear sky in August, and around Luxor the Sun stands almost overhead during totality.
In Tarifa the whole eclipse, from the first bite to the last, runs from about 09:41 to 12:01 local time, so allow the full morning.
What this eclipse means in astrology
9°55′ Leo· South Node
The heart is the subject of this eclipse: how you express yourself, what you create, who you love and what makes you proud. At 9°55′ Leo it lands right beside the South Node, so the new chapter starts with a release. An old role, or a hunger for attention that no longer feeds you, is ready to go. The North Node in Aquarius shows where that warmth goes next: toward other people and work that serves them. This total eclipse in Leo on 2 August 2027 is one of the longest of the century, and its effects unfold over the six months that follow.
Who feels it most
Charts with a planet or the ascendant between about 5° and 15° of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio, the fixed signs, take this eclipse most personally. Anyone born around 2 August has the Sun close to 9°55′ Leo. With your Sun, Moon or ascendant in that band, expect a visible change in the way you show yourself and whom you give your time to.
The eclipse for each sign
Read your Sun sign, and your rising sign if you know it.
AriesYour 5th house
Romance, play and creative work change key in your 5th house. Chasing thrills or needing to win at love can fade, and warmer bonds, with a partner or children, grow instead. Finish a creative project you started for fun.
TaurusYour 4th house
Home and family reach a turning point in your 4th house. A role you have played for years, perhaps the strong one or the provider, may no longer fit. Let the people closest to you see what you need.
GeminiYour 3rd house
The way you speak and write takes a warmer turn in your 3rd house. Talking to impress stops working, and plain words from the heart land better. Tell someone close what they mean to you.
CancerYour 2nd house
Self-worth sits at the core of your 2nd house now, and money follows it. Spending for show, or waiting for praise to feel valuable, can lose its grip. Put your effort behind the talent you are proudest of.
LeoYour 1st house
The change starts with you and your image, since the eclipse falls in your own sign and 1st house. You can stop performing for approval. Show up as you are, and notice who stays.
VirgoYour 12th house
Much of this eclipse works behind the scenes, in your 12th house of rest and inner life. Old hurts about going unnoticed start to ease. Take proper downtime, and let a private project grow quietly.
LibraYour 11th house
Your social world reshuffles in your 11th house of friends and hopes. Circles built on status or image may thin out, and people who share your aims move closer. Invest your time in friendships that feel mutual.
ScorpioYour 10th house
Public life and career turn a page in your 10th house. A goal chosen for prestige matters less, and work you care about gains ground. Lead in a way that shares the credit.
SagittariusYour 9th house
Study, travel and big questions open up in your 9th house. Being right gives way to the joy of learning something that moves you. Teach what you know to someone just starting out.
CapricornYour 8th house
Trust and intimacy deepen in your 8th house, the house of shared money and close bonds. Pride that keeps you from asking for help can soften. Accept support when it is offered, and say thank you out loud.
AquariusYour 7th house
The people you pair up with, in love or at work, take center stage in your 7th house. A pattern where one of you shines and the other watches can end. Celebrate your partners, and let them celebrate you.
PiscesYour 6th house
Work habits and daily energy need more heart in your 6th house. Doing extra just to be needed wears thin, and work you enjoy gives you strength back. Set a clear limit on overtime.
The same eclipse every 18 years: Saros 136
This eclipse belongs to Saros 136, a family of eclipses that returns every 18 years and 11 days. The previous one, on 22 July 2009, crossed India and China; the next, on 12 August 2045, will cross the United States from California to Florida. Since the 1955 peak, each return has been a little shorter:
