Progressed chart calculator: secondary progressions for any date
A progressed chart is your birth chart moved forward one day for each year you have lived, so it shows where your Sun and Moon stand now.
What the calculator does, step by step
In secondary progressions each day after birth stands for a year: at 36, your progressed chart is the sky 36 days after you were born, cast for your birth place. Age counts as a fraction, so the progressed Moon glides about a degree a month, never jumping. Positions come from the ephemeris behind this site’s birth chart.
Take a birth on 29 September 1990 at 09:30 in Moscow: Sun 5°49′ Libra, Ascendant 25°07′ Libra, Moon 29°47′ Capricorn. On 25 September 2026, just short of 36, the progressed Sun is at 11°32′ Scorpio and enters Sagittarius on 1 February 2045. The progressed Moon, newly at 0°04′ Gemini, is passing through the natal 8th house and enters Cancer on 23 September 2028. The progressed Ascendant is 18°03′ Scorpio, the Midheaven 11°11′ Virgo.
The angles move by the solar arc, the distance the progressed Sun has covered since birth: 35°43′ in the example. The natal Midheaven advances by that arc, and the progressed Ascendant is the one it gives at your birth latitude. This is astro.com’s default. Calculators that use the Naibod arc, or cast a chart for the progressed moment, can put the angles a degree or more from ours; the planets agree.
If the birth time is unknown, noon stands in for it. The Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars and slower planets barely move in a day and still appear; the progressed Moon, uncertain by some six degrees either way, gets only its sign, or two, with no degree, house or date, and there are no angles. The Sun’s sign change widens to a window of about a year: half a degree of doubt in the natal Sun is half a year here.
Progressions show slow development inside your own chart; transits are today’s planets touching it from outside. Unlike a solar return, which builds a fresh chart every birthday, progressions carry the birth chart itself forward: that is why the progressed Sun changes sign about once in thirty years, while the solar return Sun lands back on its natal degree every year.
Questions about progressed charts
What is a progressed chart in astrology?
It is your birth chart set in motion: the planets are advanced by one day for every year you have lived, and the result is read as a portrait of who you are becoming. Astrologers look first at the progressed Sun and Moon, which show the long chapter of your life and the emotional season inside it.
What is a secondary progressed chart?
It is the progressed chart built with the day-for-a-year method, the most widely used kind and the one this calculator makes. The word “secondary” sets it apart from primary directions, which count one degree of the sky’s daily turn as a year of life, and from tertiary progressions, which make each day after birth stand for a lunar month.
What does the progressed Moon mean?
The progressed Moon stands for your emotional needs as they are now, and it changes sign about every two and a half years, marking the seasons inside a longer chapter. A full lap takes about 27 years, so over a long life each sign comes round two or three times; the natal house it crosses shows which area of life those needs gather around.
What is my progressed chart right now?
It is the one you get by entering your birth date, time and city above and leaving the date to progress to at today, its default. The result names your progressed Sun and Moon signs, gives the Ascendant and Midheaven, and lists every body that has changed sign since your birth; a second button moves the date a year ahead.
Progressed chart or transits: what is the difference?
Progressions grow out of your own birth chart and shift over years, while transits are the actual planets of the present sky crossing the degrees of that chart for days or months. Astrologers usually read them side by side: a transit often coincides with the moment something the progressions have been preparing becomes visible.
Is this progressed chart calculator free?
Yes, completely: the progressed Sun, Moon and angles, the table of changes and the zodiac ring cost nothing, and there is no sign-up. Nothing you type is kept, so you can check any number of dates.
