In a chart Mercury tells you how someone learns, argues, and changes their mind. Retrograde Mercury in a natal chart is not a curse. It is a mind that circles, edits, and hears the second meaning first.
Read it with the Sun (what you are trying to say) and the Moon (what you feel while you say it). Then look at the house: classroom, marketplace, the private correspondence of a life.
Mercury stays close to the Sun. If you know your Sun sign, Mercury is usually there or in the neighbouring sign. The house still wants a birth time.
